Tourism Vancouver and Beyond Tips

Lower Mainland and Vancouver Tourist Attractions

Granville Island Water Park
As you enter Granville Island going north, on your east side of Bridge St. is Sutcliffe Park, which holds a water park, with working water cannons and other water fun equipment for those hot days.
Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge
Go north on Lynn Valley Road to Peters Road, and you get to a free suspension bridge (and an interesting ecology center) along with an trail that goes on and on and on… You can also stop part way at a local swimming hole.

Whyte Cliff Park and “The Island”
You can picnic, and see the scuba divers enjoy this park. If you come at low tide, you can walk over to a very nice island with a great view. Fun for simple exploration.

Lighthouse Park
A quick hike, with multiple trails and a good view of Howe Sound. Quiet much of the time.

Britannia Beach “Gold Pan”

This is an interesting tourist spot en route to Squamish, and provides a tour of the Brittania Hard rock mine and buildings and equipment, with the opportunity to pan for gold or just purchase some rocks and fossils.

Pitt River “Canoe Trip”
At the most northern point of the Pitt River is a marina, with rental canoes at a reasonable cost that will allow you to paddle out all over the place. Go further up until you get to a trail that will then take you to some waterfalls and a cold swim if you desire. There is a very small island (with just enough room for two) just down river that you can try to find before anyone else does.
Garry Point Park “Seals”
In Steveston is this great park for playing, or just watch the river boat traffic. If you time the tide right, you can go downstream by boat and see the seals most of the time. Some interesting islands to stop off at in the area and a large incoming tide will assist in bringing you back upstream!

Dyke Rd. “Wild Bunnies Park ”
The drive on this road is pleasant and near the end of the road is a very, very small park. In this park are bunnies (seriously, a lot of them) so bring some healthy snacks if you wish, as it seems many others do and you can feed the bunnies to or just enjoy watching them.

Templeton St. “Airport Viewpoint”
If you enjoy watching large aircraft flying directly overhead, then this place and the areas around it are for you! Just park, and watch.

Iona Park “Bike and Hike”
Bring your bike! When you go, you will know why. A very long beach run is also possible. If the wind is right, windsurfers can be seen among the waves.

McDonald Beach Park “boat ramp and dog park”
A great place to let your pet loose and an ideal launch point to launch a boat. Keep a watch-out for deadheads and other wood debris in the river, but don’t be surprised if you see and eagle or some seals, along with some interesting boat traffic.
Horseshoe Bay and “Island getaways”
Not far West and North of Horseshoe Bay is Hood Pt. Bowyer Island and Hutt Island for a quick bit of weekend fun.

Coal Island “Camping”
Also known as the “Super Port,” you can find a lot of camping options nearby, along with many bird-watching and small-boat recreational fun.

Belcarra Reginal Park
Good area for barbeques and picnic sports, with a dock that some use for catching crabs and fishing.
Barnet Marine Park
A simple, very close by park, for picnics.

Sylvester Rd. “Davis Lake”
This is a very “get out of town” style trip, with a nice country drive.

Barnston Island “Mini Ferry”
This is a farm island, with a mini ferry that gets you away from the crowd.

“Nearby” Tourist Attractions
Royston wrecks
Over 14 shipwrecks that can be explored both below and above water, just outside of Courtenay, BC.
